Amanda Martell, LCSW – Licensed Clinical Social Worker
I am a private practice licensed clinical social worker serving women across the State of New York. Please note this practice is fully remote. I also see children and adolescents (ages 8 and up).
As your therapist, it is my priority to create a therapeutic atmosphere that promotes growth and positive change, for you. I look forward to working with you to addresses your challenges and realize your goals. Therapy is a process that can move you toward being the healthiest version of yourself and living the life you desire.
Who am I?
I knew that I would be helping people from a very young age. As the eldest of 10, I was naturally positioned to be a nurturer and helper. I always found that, as I built friendships, I became the person friends would open up to in their greatest time of need. As I grew and went through experiences of my own, so did my empathy for others. Helping people grow is all that I’ve known; it doesn’t feel like work to me and is something that I truly enjoy. I also always found the mind to be fascinating. What I did not realize was how much I would enjoy being a therapist. In fact, in the beginning, I chose paths where, although clinical skills were always being used, the focus was not always on clinical work. I feel like those experiences were helpful, as they helped me to have well-rounded knowledge of not only resources but experiences of the people I worked with. In therapeutic spaces, I have worked doing family therapy, as well as group and individual therapy. I also have years of experience working in schools in a variety of settings. I have worked in preventive and child welfare, in homelessness, and in capacity building.
I am a true New York gal! Although I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, I also spent 11 years of my life in Buffalo, New York. I am back in Brooklyn but I really have been State wide and can meet virtually with any woman living in New York State seeking someone to talk to.
Treatment Approach
I use a variety of approaches to address my clients unique needs. Treatment plans however will utilize a foundation of person-centered, psychodynamic therapy. Additionally, there is a growing body of research that supports the practice of self-compassion and mindfulness in psychotherapy. Neuroscience research reveals individuals that practice these techniques are happier, more resilient, and better equipped to heal painful memories from the past. It is my honor and mission to help my clients move past what’s blocking them from reaching their full potential individually and in their relationships.
Don’t be afraid to be true to you.
